Kennek stood still and shut up. Not much he could do otherwise - but if he heard something slightly out of place, there'd be a hell of an angry Argonian to reckon with.

The dunmer paused in an old room close to some stairs. It looked like it was once an office, but long out of use. Still, he crept quietly to the remains of a desk, carefully pulling open drawers or unfurling scrolls. He paused in pulling open one scroll, hidden under the desk, when he heard creaking from upstairs. Could've simply been the age of the place, but maybe someone was around. A quick glance to the scroll showed it was a map of sorts, so he carefully folded it and tucked it in one of his pockets.

Snow began to fall silently as Arla crossed the roofs of the city. She felt the roof creak under her weight and instinctively knew where not to tread. The glow of the smoldering tavern was visible in the distance. She looked skyward, her breath visible as she exhaled. The moon was bright and full tonight.

With all the drinking, Arla had lost track of the time. She had spent her last transformation far from the city but in all fairness it took some getting used to. She noticed her muzzle was coated in someones blood as she picked at her teeth. Lots of prey here, all hidden inside dens.

She briefly considered going inside the one she stood on but decided there were easier places to get prey.

Her ears perked up suddenly. Voices. Smells of the fire and the people around it. She peered through the darkness at two of the intruders crossing into old Bruma. One held a silver mace.

She made a face as they started checking the old abandoned homes and buildings. Silver things smelled bad. The attackers crossed the street and entered the old fighters guild.

She snuffed the air, catching their sent before settling onto the roof of the next closest building. Her heavy build causing the building to creak inside. There were others here. Not just those two but something was making it harder to smell them.

Arla sat atop the mages guild, padding about as she waited for her next victims to step out.

In the quiet, Seeks heard the building creak under Arla's weight. Her voice still quiet, she said, "Hrm... It must have just been this old building settling under its own weight. Sorry I'm a bit jumpy. I just don't want that thing that used to be Arla finding us. It would be bad."

She lowered her stance and moved over to Kennek. "So how are you holding up, kid?"

"Real bored, to be honest." Kennek replied as softly as he could, noticing the thud above them. "Well that can't be good."

Kennek gripped his hammer firmly, looking at Seeks. "Need me for anything?"

The assassin could hear the sound of a thump from above, the boards shifting. It could've simply been something like a support rotting away and falling. He wasn't sure. But there was nothing coming down the stairs, so the assassin carefully unrolled his scroll, holding his breath from the dust.

It was a map of Bruma, some two, three hundred years ago. It showed a passage leading out of the city through a tunnel under a house. He thought carefully, to the guide that he had gotten before, trying to link the ancient map to the current one.

His memory wasn't that good. The dunmer carefully took out his Guide to Bruma book, and started to flip through it, trying to find a map. Once he did, he got to work to looking at both maps.

She shrugged, "Well, I guess we could go downstairs and look for some books. I'm sure they'd have something about lycanthropy. We might be able to find a way to nip the disease at the bud is she finds us and bites us."

"Bite? I take it that's worse than if I just lost an arm then." Kennek whispered, moving slowly across the guild hall, hands still on his hammer. "I mean, losing an arm would be pretty shitty."

The dunmer paused in his task. The boards above were creaking again, quieter than before. Like someone was deliberately being slow. He quickly slammed his book shut and took the map, stuffing them both in his bag before taking out his daggers.

Was there really someone upstairs, and he had failed to notice? Nightshade swore quietly under his breath, and slowly moved to the doorway of the office, keeping close to the wall.

Time passed as the former table companions staked out the mages guild. Outside, the two attackers left the former fighters guild and began walking the perimeter of the mages guild knocking on the walls, hoping to draw people out.

Arla watches silently, her fangs bared. Her fur bristled as she watched them walk, once they got to the front, she would attack.

Seeks stopped, hearing knocking on the outer walls. "Hrm. Someone is outside, likely those madmen. A Lycanthrope would have just come in. Come on, let's find the library. We'll find all we need to know if it's still intact."

She grabbed Kennek's hand and pulled him through the dark in search of books.

Kennek moved with Seeks, not making any sort of jokes on the way. He knew very well that this was a time of utmost seriousness. His plate armor softly clanked as he moved, and he cursed the (admittedly high quality) metal. He went close to Seeks, ready to shield her from any sort of harm that would come their way.

The Bruma Mage's Guild didn't seem to have much in the way of a library - simply a place with abandoned alchemy equipment and a shelf filled with books. Perhaps it was the Nordic distrust of magic that led to such small facilities. "Ok, ok. What book should I be lookin' for?"

Something hit the wall outside, and there was, for the briefest of moments, a dark shadow was against the window. The dunmer carefully pressed himself further into the dark...just as he heard the tell tale sound of plate armour and hushed voices coming from down the stairs. So he was right, and there were others here. He held his dagger tightly in his hand, but thankfully, they passed the room by and went down the hall. Since he found what he needed, he was tempted to simply leave, but with the attackers around... Perhaps he should simply hide out for a little while.

Or follow the two, see what they were doing here. Maybe they were with the attackers, who knows. The dunmer's steps were silent as he quietly followed them to the library, using the shadows to his advantage.

Seeks searched the books on the shelf one-by-one, sometimes having to open them because the spines were too damaged. After what seemed like an hour, she finally returned with a moldy, moth-eaten tome that produced a large cloud of dust when she plopped it onto the table. The cover read "On Lyc...y", a good portion of the front cover was illegible, as were most of the outer pages. "Evidently this city has had trouble with Lycanthropes in the past, as this book is not easy to get a hold of, I've only seen a handful of copies in the past, and I spent the better part of ten years in libraries across Tamriel. It's a shame to see it in such awful condition, but that's neither here nor there. I need to do research and you should make sure nobody comes in through that door... or what's left of it anyway." She pointed to the room's entryway, then cast candlelight on the table next to her and began reading.

Kennek stood in front of the entrance, a giant, muscled scaled monolith of steel and orcish warhammer. The only way through that was through the front.

"Just hurry. I have a feeling we ain't gonna be alone for long."

The dunmer approached the doorway cautiously, crouched and sticking to the darkness. He stopped right when he could hear the voices well enough to listen to their words, and he stayed pressed close to the wall. He felt as though they were vaguely familiar, as if he heard them talk before.

...Could've just been his imagination.

The intruders eventually met back up at the front of the building. They whispered to each other in hushed tones. One stepped back, providing an overwatch. He withdrew a potion of night eye and a potion of one handed expertise. Drinking them both, he tossed aside the empty glass.

The other simply pushed open the front door with his sword, peering inside. Seeing a slight light emenating inside, he stepped in.

Arla shifted, ceiling creaking as she moved.

Completely focused on her research, Seeks was none the wiser when the door to the building opened. Instead, she kept reading, pausing only to jot down the occasional note on some paper with a charred piece of wood.

The assassin, however, was in the perfect position to see the entrance of the intruders. He carefully pulled his bow off his back, keeping as silent as possible, so that he could be undetected to both intruder and the ones in the lit room. An iron arrow was notched, and when the intruder had stepped into the building, the assassin let it fly into his throat. The body in heavy armour fell noisily to the ground, and the dunmer quickly notched another arrow, waiting for the next target.

The loud, clanging thud made Seeks jump, snapping out of her trance as she did so. She threw the book along with her notes into her knapsack. "Shit, they found us! We need to get out of here before that noise attracts the girl!"

"So much for stealth," Kennek muttered, looking around the room. "There, a window." He pointed behind Seeks and tried to open the thing up. Years of disuse and cold winter, however, sealed the thing shut.

Kennek, being who he was, took his hammer to it. Or rather, the handle of his hammer, bashing it against the frame itself to knock the thing out.

THUNK. THUNK. THUNK. THUNK.

The frame and glass fell out, landing in the snow with barely a sound, giving Seeks an exit. "There we go."

Seeks stared at Kennek for a moment, blinking bewilderedly. "You realize that I went through the window at the tavern is because breaking through the wall would have taken too long and we wouldn't have been able to take down all those men at the entrance quickly enough to escape Arla before she turned, right? It's not like I'm insistent on dramatic window escapes. But," she looked back to the door, "it is already out and they're probably nearly over here. So..."

She tossed her bag through the window then jumped through herself, but not before casting a rune on the wall next to the entryway just out of sight of anyone coming in.

Kennek just wanted a view of some choice ass, really.

Like venison steak, mm-mmm.

Leaving that little image within his mind for later use, he climbed out after Seeks and landed right next to her, the weight of his armor making the impact a bit harsher on him.

"Oft, knees are gonna be sore in the mornin'," Kennek muttered, looking back to Seeks. "Let's get outta here, shall we?"

Movement came from the room. The ones inside were escaping. The opponent noticed as well. He was trying to see which would be the better choice: enter anyways, or chase after them. Nightshade took advantage of that split second, another arrow was fired, and it lodged itself in his head. The would-be intruder fell to his side and out the door.

But the assassin didn't hesitate; if there were two there, others would realize that their companions were gone. Maybe they would go after the ones who were in the library, but he wasn't taking any chances. He started to run back to the office, recalling the windows there. As he stepped in, he fired an arrow through the window, shattering a hole through it; now that it had been weakened, he could smash it easily with his elbow and crawl out. He'd have to be quiet and make his way to the exit he had seen before.

"STOP RIGHT THERE DAEDRA WORSHIPING FOOLS!"

An armored man stands only a few meters away, both his hands glowing brightly as arcane magicka flowed through them into a powerful bolt ready to be unleashed.

"You are going to lay down your weapons and come with me or be prepared to meet your princes in Oblivion!"

He concentrated as he poured more energy into the attack. His Breton blood reinforcing the amount of power he could use.

--------------------------

Above him, the noises stirred a waiting predator. Climbing to the edge of the building, powerful jaws opened up. Her body almost perfectly blended in with the building, her blonde fur melting in with the last rays of the moon as dawn began to arrive.

---------------------------

The man cackled once. "Once I get you lot strapped down, you'll be changing your tunes... How dare you lot hide in these parts.." He seemed to seethe with a fury. Like he was overcome with anger at the sheer affront of them.

The only thing that managed to cool his flame was the impact of almost a ton of flesh, claws, and bestial fury into him. A sharp snap as Arla sunk her teeth into his neck ended his pathetic mewling. Blood dripped from her maw as she looked up at the two Argonians, murder shining in her eyes from the first rays of light. She howled once, staring them down.
