Regarding these tomes...
Has anyone put any serious thought into studying these? Replicating them? Anything similar? I mean, we sit here and write random, unimportant things on the ledgers, but... I don't know. I just think that we should consider finding out just what these are, and how many of them there are.

Yes, a man called Vladmir. I don't reccommend it, though. Daedric magic is not to be trifled with.

Re: Regarding these tomes...
Considering how these tomes react violently to any attempt to destroy them, my guess is that creating copies will require more work than disenchanting them and rendering that enchantment onto another book.
Though it would be quite useful to find a way to manipulate them a little more... finely. Perhaps a way of writing a message that only appears in two books, a 'private entry' of sorts? Just throwing ideas out there.

Ok so this seems like a thread that'd be helpful for me to put this down.
You don't need ink to write in these tomes. Yeah, crazy I know, but an hour ago I wrote down something in the journal and forgot to dip my quill in any ink - it wrote stuff down anyway.
This is pretty awesome.

But, we have no way to do any of these things without study and experimentation. I mean, I'm the last person to trust magic (far too random, unpredictable), but this is definitely something that deserves research.Alicia Jornali wrote:Considering how these tomes react violently to any attempt to destroy them, my guess is that creating copies will require more work than disenchanting them and rendering that enchantment onto another book.

You're weighing the risk over the reward. Think about it - you're already at risk for simply writing on the things. I'm sure a little experimentation couldn't be THAT bad.Kestrel wrote:I dont mess it magik. It mite end badly.
Are we sure this is Daedric magic, though? This could be some Dwemer lost science or Synod magical experiment. We are treating these tomes too casually. And, is this Vladmir still here?Seeks-Many-Secrets wrote:Yes, a man called Vladmir. I don't reccommend it, though. Daedric magic is not to be trifled with.
Edit: That's an interesting development. Do you even need a quill, then?

Yes, so I read from you. You don't need a quill at all, then? Could you use your...claw, is it?... to write, as opposed to a quill?Kennek-Getha of Iblan wrote:hey you don't need ink to write just saying that's really fuckin' handy

I'd still recommend using a quill. It's what the book recognizes as something folks write with, so other methods of doing it are sloppier I guess?
Tried with my claws, and. Well. It shocked me a bit. This thing is fucking vindictive.

Now we're making progress. Not having to use ink is a major boon.

Oddly enough, you can also write in all sorts of different ways in these tomes just by thinking of it. Changing the color of your words and even manipulating your handwriting.

Time to be rid of this thing then, there's no way in oblivion that some daedric book is going to be probing my mind.
They might be durbable but I can't imagine one can come back from a mammoth stepping on it.

You really want to announce your intentions to destroy the book IN the book? I don't know if these things can understand such thoughts or such, but it might pre-emptively try to kill you.

Re: Regarding these tomes...
Why would being stepped on by a mammoth do anything to it? Find some spell-slinger to set it on fire.

Besides, if it truly can read thoughts then it would have known I planned to be rid of it from the moment I read Nightshade's discovery. If nothing else it might be a useful test to know just how much they can learn of the ones carrying them.
